Money and exchange

As part of the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland currency is Pounds Sterling. The majority of pound notes are released by the Bank of England, these notes are accepted tender throughout the UK, however, Northern Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man all produce their own bank notes. These are also accepted throughout Northern Ireland. Expect to see notes produced by the Northern Bank, Ulster Bank, Bank of Ireland, and the First Trust.

The euro may be accepted in the larger stores in the City Centre, few shops on the Shankill will accept the currency. There are, however, several bank machines on the Shankill and these accept, Maestro, Cirrus etc.

Shops

The majority of shops are open 9am – 5pm Monday to Saturday, all shops close on a Sunday, so if you want to buy a souvenir, do not make your visit on that day.
